Mangcuo Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located on the western side of the Xiaobangdamangco to the southeast of the Mongkang County, Tibet. It was named by the 3rd Regional Geological Reconnaissance Party under the Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources of Sichuan Province in 1974.
Lithology and Thickness
Limestone. Composed of light-grey and grey-white medium- and thick-bedded limestones and crystal-clastic tuffs, with a thickness of 350 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Disconformable contact with the underlying Lizha Fm or its coeval Ebana Fm
Upper contact
Conformable below Tyokar Fm
Regional extent
Distributed in the areas of the Mongkang County, Chando Region, Leiniaoqi County and Batang County of western Sichuan Province; and in the area of the Angqian County, Qinghai Province, with a fairly great change in its thickness, as being of 305 m in the Xiaobangdamangco of the Mongkang County; of 151.8 m in the Xiaobangdadina area; of 39 m in the Gangzhuoyong of the Angqian County of Qinghai Province; of 164 m in the area of the Lunzhuosi Temple of the Leiniaoqi County; of over 80 m in the Anba area of the Chando Region; and of 1397 m in the Erarqin area of the Batang County.

Abundant marine animal fossils, including Fusulinida represented by Parafusulina, Misellina, Toriyamaia, Yangchienia, Pseudofusulina and Schwagerina; Corals such as Szechuanophyllum, Lophophyllidium and Yatsengia; as well as Ammonoids such as Popanoceras, etc.,
